EXAMINATIONS

At BKD Performers we offer examinations in BALLET and in LAMDA

WHAT HAPPENS ON THE EXAM DAY AND BEYOND....?

IN PERSON EXAM DAY

Students are expected to arrive at least 1 hour before the exam start time. This is to enable Miss Cathie to do their hair and for them to warm up. Please bring a onesie or zip top to wear over your leotards.

FILMED EXAM DAY

Students will be invited to arrive in time to have their hair done and begin filming the exam. Miss Cathie will do their hair and enable them to warm up. Please bring a onesie or zip top to wear over your leotards.

BKD Performers provide the exam attire and hair decorations for Primary in Dance, Grade 1, Grade 2 and Grade 3

You will need to provide their new ballet shoes and new ballet socks (tights for Grade 3 and ribbons on shoes)

In addition Grade 1, 2 & 3 will be expected to bring their OWN character skirt (washed and pressed) and character shoes.

For examinations Grade 4 and above you will wear the appropriate leotard and belt, pink or flesh coloured ballet tights and satin ballet shoes with ribbons plus your blue ribbon character skirt (washed and pressed) and black cuban heels.

For vocational exams Inter Foundation, Intermediate, Advanced Foundation and Advanced 1 & 2 your exam attire will be discussed in class. Pink or flesh coloured ballet tights with soft pointes or canvas shoes.

Where possible we will still run regular classes on exam days.

You can move up to the next class as soon as you have taken your exam.

We recommend from Grade 3 upwards students take another dance technique class alongside ballet and from Grade 4 and above are expected to attend a minimum of 2 ballet classes a week.

PRIVATE EXAM TUITION

Private ballet exam tuition can be very beneficial and can reinforce what is learnt in class and be specific to the students needs. We are happy for the students to share sessions but they may only share with another student in their exam group/grade. The sessions can only be booked by one person but please advise via email if you will be sharing the session - admin@bkdperformers.co.uk All private tuition bookings are on a first come first served basis and non refundable.

We will send out links for the practice videos please do let me know as soon as possible if you have not yet received them. These are for reference only and NOT for your child to copy on a TV. They should at this stage be able to recall the exercises and use the videos for music only.

MOCK EXAMS

Where possible we will hold mock examinations before the actual exam day.

On mock exam day treat it like the real thing and please ensure your child is ready to start at the given time and has their hair is in a bun, neat and tidy and they wear their class uniform. If they have their exam fit ballet shoes then they can be worn for the mock exam but with tote socks over them (Tote socks work well)

EXAM FIT BALLET SHOES

ALL EXAM STUDENTS will require brand new exam fit ballet shoes. Please ensure you purchase your shoes in advance of the mock so you can be organised for the day and wear them in the week running up to the exams.
